You talk the talk but can you actually walk the walk?

How many of us know someone who fits this description! Or Is this even you?

For me it’s pretty simple, life I mean, it’s what you make it right? We all have the power to create the life we want but the difference is some of us make it happen and some of us, don’t!

They talk the talk but they never seem to walk the walk!

Now don’t get me wrong I’m not preaching I’m just sharing my personal experience, you can live your life however you see fit, but so many people go through life claiming to want to do certain things but never seem to actually make any effort to move forward and achieve those things which can get a little tedious at times, especially if you’ve heard it a hundred times before! Now you might say that that’s because some people are dreamers, well I’m a dreamer too there’s absolutely nothing wrong with having dreams but do you really want to spend your life dreaming, wouldn’t it be so much better if even just some of those dreams actually came true? Of course but it’s not that easy! Is that what you’re thinking?

Well here’s the thing, you can start with self-belief because let’s face it if you don’t believe in yourself how can you expect anyone else to! I understand that this might take little time but it’s a good place to begin, then maybe write down some goals and put them somewhere you can see them every day as a reminder, you’d be amazed at how effective having something written down on paper can be. This really can be anything at all that is going to make you feel that you are working towards the life you want to be living, next comes the focus, now this is where the effort comes in I mean you’re not just going to be able to wave a magic wand and hey presto you’re sunning yourself on a yacht in the middle of the Mediterranean! No, it takes effort and you have to focus and you may have to make compromises! For example, it might be that you want the holiday of a lifetime, a ticket around the world exploring places you’ve never seen but you constantly dream about, no wait that’s one of my dreams!! Ok I’m sure lots of people have this dream too! Anyway we all know that to travel you need a certain amount of money right? now if your reason for not travelling is that you can’t afford it! Well then I guess you’re never going to be going on that holiday of a lifetime! Been there, done that and worn that attitude for way longer than I should have! And let me tell you I’ve missed out on a fair few experiences in life because of it! My life once consisted of working and paying bills with an occasional luxury (We’re talking a new pair of shoes here) thrown in for good measure because I had the mind-set that I couldn’t afford it. This was until I had my epiphany, the lightbulb moment or whatever you want to call it, that literally helped me to change my life! So now when I know I want to do something, I focus, I believe and I look for the opportunity to achieve it, we are presented with opportunities every single day but how many of us actually see them! So this is an important part of the process ok, by believing, you are opening your eyes to see the opportunities that are often staring us in the face. Ok personal example, for at least 20 years of my life I worked in sales, the reason for this? MONEY, not because I loved selling! I could earn a better salary working in sales than I could working in let’s say retail or customer service, it was a no brainer, I was a single mum I wanted to support myself and my daughter so that’s what I did! The reality was that it didn’t matter how much I earned because the more I earned the more I wasted and I still couldn’t afford to do the things I wanted to! And this just made me more and more unhappy, I was a talk the talk but can’t walk the walk kind of person and that just wasn’t working for me!  Now last year my salary halved, what? why? Are you crazy? That’s what you’re thinking right? No, I’m not crazy, well maybe a little but that’s because I’m passionate and that can only be a good thing! No, I saw an opportunity to be happy and I grabbed it with both hands there’s been several actually, opportunities that is but this is just an example! If you’ve read my blog Changes are opportunities to grow! you will see that I’ve ended up in a job that I absolutely love because I took a few risks or “opportunities” if you like and ok some of them didn’t work out but I got here in the end! So how do I survive on half the salary I had before? I DON’T waste what I have and I DON’T worry about what I DON’T have and you know what I manage, my bills are paid and I still get to do nice things, because I focus on what I want, I believe I will have it and WHEN the opportunity presents itself (AND IT WILL) I take it! I have twice as much now as I had last year, I guess it’s about understanding yourself and what you want from life and realising that you are the only one that can make it happen, but you have to make an effort to focus on how to get there!

Let me tell you this and whether you want to believe it or not that’s up to you, the more you focus on what you don’t and can’t have the less you will have! By focusing on what I have and being grateful for it I am enjoying my life more and more! I visualise every day the things I want to allow into my life and I am starting to be able to tick them off my list! I believe I will make it happen and yes sometimes you have to be patient but I always find a way! Happiness only comes from within ourselves, you’ve all heard the saying “Where there’s a will there’s a way” this could not be more true, find your will and you will find a way!

So Yes, I am still talking the talk but you know what, now I am also walking the walk!
